Anthony Beckford is the District Leader and Democratic Male State Committee Member of the 43rd New York State Assembly District in Brooklyn, which covers Flatbush, Crown Heights, Prospect Lefferts Garden and a small part of East Flatbush.
Anthony is the son of Afro-Caribbean parents from Jamaica; a Single Father, United States Marine Corps Veteran, Published author, Mentor, long-standing Community and Human Rights Consultant. District Leader Beckford is the founder of various initiatives such as; Save Our Youth Initiative and L.I.F.E. (Love, Integrity, Family and Equity), which has the mission to engage with youth and families to combat poverty, food insecurities, educational needs, gun violence and much more. Being an active advocate has opened the door for many opportunities. As the President of Brooklyn Progressive Action Network and an Executive Committee Member of New York Progressive Action Network, Anthony Beckford has been able to bring more focus on civic engagement and legislative needs of the community. As a leader in the Social Justice movement and President of Black Lives Matter Brooklyn, District Leader Anthony Beckford has been a key to many positive changes in our communities and through legislation. Anthony is the recipient of the Brooklyn Power List Honoree Award, Kings of New York Award, Two time honoree of the Caribbean Impact Image Awards, the Community Moms and Pops Awards and the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity, for his hard work and dedication in the community, with his businesses, advocacy and politics. Over the years, he was also given awards from various Elected Officials throughout New York City for his community service, advocacy and commitment to issues such as housing, public safety, social justice, education, workforce services and more.

Duties of district leaders, include:
Working with the city Board of Elections to nominate poll workers.
Nominating candidates for judgeships in Civil and Supreme Court.
Serving as a member of the county party’s executive committee, which votes for the party’s leadership.
Serving as State Committee Members, representing their Assembly Districts throughout New York State and voting on State Party Leadership and Rules.
Appoint county committee members and help elect judicial delegates withing their respective Assembly District.
Unofficial Duties:
Some District Leaders write Legislation for the State Legislators to introduce and pass.
Some District Leaders are Community Advocates, and advocate for programming and services in their respective Assembly District.
Some District Leaders work alongside Small Business Owners and Tenants as advocates.
Note: District Leaders are Elected Officials and have strong influence in politics in New York State. Although they have political capital, their position is unpaid and unfunded. They raise funds consistently to implement many of their community projects and for their election funds.
